Two of the most concrete financial benefits in Nordstrom’s current employee materials are the merchandise discount and the Nordstrom 401(k) Plan.
The details are more nuanced than a single percentage because merchandise discounts can vary by job level and shopping destination.
Full-Time Job Level 15 Discount
Nordstrom’s February 2026 benefits overview for job level 15 in the full-time benefits classification lists:
- 33% at Nordstrom stores and Nordstrom.com;
- 20% at Nordstrom Rack stores, nordstromrack.com and restaurants.
The document says the merchandise discount is available at hire for the classification it covers.
Job Levels 7–14
The separate variable-benefits document lists:
- job levels 7–11: 20% at Nordstrom stores and Nordstrom.com;
- job levels 12–14: 33% at Nordstrom stores and Nordstrom.com;
- all levels covered by that document: 20% at Nordstrom Rack, nordstromrack.com and restaurants.
That is why an article should never make the blanket claim that every Nordstrom employee receives the same percentage everywhere.
How the 401(k) Match Is Described
The February 2026 job-level-15 document says eligible employees may contribute up to 50% of eligible pay, subject to IRS limits.
For employer contributions, the document describes a dollar-for-dollar match on the first 1% of eligible pay contributed, followed by fifty cents per dollar on the next 6%, producing a maximum employer match of 4% of eligible pay when the stated conditions are satisfied.
The variable-benefits document describes the same matching formula for the classifications it covers.
Auto-Enrollment
Both reviewed documents describe automatic enrollment at a 3% pretax contribution rate 30 days after hire unless the employee opts out, followed by an annual 1-percentage-point increase until 10%, subject to the plan terms described in the documents.
Employees can change their contribution elections under the rules described by the plan.
Vesting
The February 2026 summaries say company matching contributions fully vest following two years of service.
Again, these are benefit summaries, not the controlling legal documents.
Health Savings Contributions
The current documents also describe Nordstrom contributions to HSAs for employees enrolled in specified medical plans.
The amounts vary by plan and coverage level.
That places the 401(k) and merchandise discount inside a broader “Healthy Wallet” benefits category rather than making them isolated perks.
Use the Formal Plan Documents
Nordstrom explicitly states that the written plan documents govern if a summary conflicts with them and tells employees to consult the Employee Benefits Summary Plan Description through MyNordstrom and the Nordstrom Benefits Portal for detailed information.
That disclaimer is particularly important for retirement benefits because contribution limits, eligibility and plan provisions can change.
